Our History
EASM was born out of prayer and direction by God. In 2014, Rev. Liberty Muhereza and Pastor Benon Bisamunyu of Kampala, Uganda, began to pray, asking God what he would want them to do in response to the continued shallowness in the knowledge of God’s Word among the body of Christ. As they surveyed the churches in Uganda, they saw poor leadership; syncretism and the revival of African traditional pagan practices; a “lazy” form of Christianity that encouraged faith without any works as believers waited for miracles while avoiding being responsible for their own lives; and continued conflicts along political, tribal, and religious lines. They saw a great need for the church to be positioned strategically as the “salt of the earth.” They knew this could only be possible with a well-equipped and discipled Church that produced Christ-followers ready to transform their communities.
They then formed Equip and Send Ministries (EASM), which was registered with the Ugandan government in 2020 and later certified as a Non-Governmental Organization (the equivalent of a nonprofit) in 2021. The ministry work of EASM officially started in January 2023, inspired by the words of Jesus: “I came that they might have life, and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10b).
God has blessed this big dream with partners in Uganda and beyond, and people’s lives are being transformed in both Uganda and Kenya as the ministry continues to reach people of many backgrounds in a variety of East African communities.
